Most motorcycle gas tanks have two fuel lines: the main one will sit about two-thirds of the way down the side of the tank, and the reserve line sits a little lower, say an inch or two. The dirt and water in your gas tank settles to the bottom, so you may end up burning dirty gasoline when you switch to reserve.
